FD&C Carmine Lake Powder is a magenta-red water-insoluble aluminum or calcium-aluminum lake on an aluminum hydroxide substrate of the coloring principles, chiefly carminic acid, obtained by an aqueous extraction of cochineal Dactylupius coccus costa (Coccus cacti).
