Seed Coating and Seed Treating Colorants
While a wide variety of seed colorants can be used on untreated seeds, the list of acceptable colorants for treated seeds is shorter.
Chromatech’s US EPA Inert compliant colorants, as defined by 40 CFR Part 180 Tolerances and Exemptions for Pesticide Chemical Residues in Food, are to be used when adding fungicides, insecticides, biologicals, and inoculants to seed coatings and seed treatments.
Chromatech’s seed colorants meet Federal requirements for seed treatments and seed coatings which are regulated under 40 CFR 180.910 (pre-harvest) or 920 (pre-harvest and post-harvest) on seeds intended to produce food.Â
Food-Use seeds are used for food or forage. Non-Food Use seeds are used for non-food crops such as ornamental plants, trees, oil crops, hemp, and sod.

Advantages to Using Our Seed Coating Colorants:
- Compliance with Federal law to identify treated seeds and use in seed coatings and seed treatments.
- Seed appearance enhancement. Market identification of seed products by specific shades of color. Our pigment dispersions are available in many colors, providing a complete range of customizable shades.
- Pigment dispersions for seeds are water-based for easy clean up and are highly compatible with seed coating ingredients, resulting in superior coverage.
- Microplastics-free, per ECHA’s definition.
